Elder
About Alex

I was born and raised in Tucson, AZ and have always loved living in the desert.  I married my best friend and beautiful wife Kristin in 2012, and we have two amazing kids, Calvin and Olivia. One of the things that has been most influential in shaping my walk with Christ has been learning about how the Bible tells the one true story of God. As I learn more and more about who God is and how he calls me to respond to Himself, I am amazed at how every facet of life is transformed by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. From my work and my marriage, to my understanding of issues like social justice and racial reconciliation, the Gospel not only shapes me and calls me to love God and love others, but also to play a part in God’s story of redemption and restoration. It is an honor to be an elder at Redemption Tucson, and to be a part of what God is doing at our church and in our city!

Corrie Byron

Finance Director
About Corrie

When I first met Andrew Byron in 2007 we were 14 and we knew we wanted to marry each other. We finally did marry in 2013 after our sophomore year at the University of Arizona. I studied accounting and received a Bachelors in Business Administration. That first year being married, we lived frugally in a shack near campus where we made some wild memories and truly began our adventure. That’s when we found Redemption Tucson in its earliest stage and have proudly been apart ever since.

I was raised in a Christian home and believed in Christ at a young age. My faith solidified when I was in high school. While reading the book of John I had a profound moment where I realized the love of God is unimaginably huge, the debt of my sin and my need for Him just as large and my view of Jesus increased monumentally.

The current Byron home recipe consists of Andrew and our two girls, Emory (2016) and Raya (2018), a big goofy dog, two fluffy cats and an ever-fluctuating flock of chickens. We love spending high-quality time together, eating at our favorite Tucson restaurants, being silly with the kids, listening to music, roasting coffee, brewing manual coffee, drinking coffee, baking, cozy fires, reading fiction, and pretending to keep the plants alive. I alone love painting, yoga, and concocting laundry suds and natural cleaning solutions for my home.

Cory Mitchell

Elder
About Cory

In 2013, God led our family from Denver to Tucson so we could work, pray, and serve in this community. While we still miss the grandeur of the mountain vistas in Colorado, we have come to love the abundance of life and subtle beauty that surrounds us in the Sonoran Desert. It is a continual reminder of how God can take what would seem harsh and uninhabitable and bring forth life and beauty. Nothing is more refreshing than the fragrance in the air after a great monsoon rain.

My wife, Mary, and I met in Texas during college and married in 1992. We have two adult children; a son who is recently married, finishing college and preparing for pharmacy school, and a daughter who is finishing college and preparing to move back to Colorado to pursue a career in veterinary nursing. We are excited about what God has in store for them and us as we move into the empty-nester phase of life.

We have both attended and served in various churches throughout our life and have been at Redemption Tucson since 2016. We have a passion for mentoring young couples and those in crisis. We love leading small groups and getting to watch the body of Christ become a family. Local church ministry can be messy, but there is nothing better than seeing people connect with Jesus and come alive in Him.

We believe God is moving in our congregation (and others) and are expectantly believing God to move in the city of Tucson and the surrounding valley as well. It is a blessing to worship among the people of Redemption Tucson.

Dave Goffeney

Lead Pastor + Elder + Direction Team
About Dave

In 2002 I married my wife Kyra, a week after college graduation. We have triplets, born in 2007 (Cooper, Ellie, and Paisley), and our exclamation point, Zoe, born in 2010.

I was born in San Diego, CA, the youngest of four boys, and around 6th grade, we moved to Hot Springs, AR.  Amidst a pretty chaotic childhood the Lord used the cultural & geographical whiplash in my life (living between California & Arkansas), to really ground me in my faith and drive me toward His Word.  Just before my Junior Year of High School my mom and I moved to Tucson, AZ. After graduating High School I started school at The University of Arizona, where I studied Philosophy and Religious Studies, with a Spanish minor. While playing rugby and getting plugged into a college ministry, Cru, God instilled in me a deep desire to serve him through intentional, all-of-life ministry, which ultimately led me (back) to Tucson, AZ., to help plant Redemption.

Kyra, our 4 kids, my mom (who we are blessed to have living with us), and our dog, love spending time together, playing at the park, hosting people in our home, playing and watching sports, playing board games, swimming… living life together.

David Wagner

About David

My childhood was marked by frequent moves, including a stint overseas in the United Arab Emirates, but I still claim Minnesota as home.  However, God had other plans for me, as my family moved to Yuma, Arizona when I was nearing the end of high school, which resulted in my attending the University of Arizona.  It was there that I met my amazing wife Michelle.  Now, after 13 years of marriage, we have three small children and a rather full schedule.

With a busy job and a growing family, I understand the lure of focusing all of our attention inwards at the demands in our own lives, but I am reminded of Hebrews 13:16, which admonishes us to “not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”  As Outward Focused Director, my hope is that the good news of the gospel motivates our community to love and share with others, and to do this in tangible ways and in all facets of our lives–work, play, and even in the mundane.  As a church, we have identified several efforts in particular that we value collectively and for which individuals in our church have taken a lead in addressing. I invite you to explore these specific ministries and consider whether you might want to become involved in them: http://tucson.redemptionaz.com/outward-focus/  Ultimately though, I invite you to respond to the good news of the gospel by loving your neighbor and our city well.

About Jenny

My roots with Redemption church began in 2004 as a new Christian in the young adults church body that would later merge to become Redemption Tempe. I served on staff with Cru at my alma mater ASU where I first met Paul, my now husband and best friend at age 19. In a love story only God could write, we were married 8 years later. We continued ministry with Cru on the University of Arizona campus from 2013 to 2016.

When I’m not chasing my young daughter, born to our family February of 2016, Paul and I can usually be found meandering around the beautiful and quirky city we call home, looking for hole in the wall restaurants, and good deals at flea markets.

Rachel Hartke

Redemption Kids Director + Direction Team
About Rachel

I was born and raised in Chandler, Arizona. I grew up attending the church that is now Redemption Gilbert. I moved to Tucson to attend the University of Arizona where I studied Art History and Business. After college, I married my best friend, Nate in 2007. Throughout college, we came to love Tucson and decided to stay and raise our family. We now have three energetic kids, Micah, Madelyn, and Benjamin. Our family activities include soccer, desert walks, and board games. My favorite things to do are read, drink coffee, and cook.

My walk with God started in childhood and was greatly shaped by the church I was raised in. It was there that I developed a love for Jesus and the Bible. In college, my faith was grown and stretched as it really became my own. I was part of the Navigators and a local church and through those ministries learned about a deeper joy that comes from knowing God and living that out every day.

My involvement with kids ministry started early on when in high school I served on my church’s childcare team. It continued throughout my young adult life serving in various capacities at church. What excites me the most about this role is partnering with families as they introduce their children to the Gospel and to lay the foundations for knowing and loving the Bible.

Shannon Harp

Foster Care, Kinship, and Adoption Director
About Shannon

I was born in Utah and raised partly in Las Vegas, Nevada and eventually moved to California as a teenager. It was there that I met my now-husband, Ryan.

Our family moved to Arizona about 5 years ago from Southern California.

My role as a wife and mother has been my focus since Ryan and I were married in 2001. Since that day, the Lord has grown our faith & our family through bringing us 8 children: Roy, Jaydin, Dallen, Easton, Tarynn, Lauren, Kaelyn, and Calvin. Some were brought to us biologically and some through foster care/ adoption. It is my privilege to partner with people at Redemption Church to highlight the crisis of foster care here in Tucson. It is truly a local mission field as well as a tremendous opportunity for us to love our neighbors in the most meaningful of ways.

James 1:27
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.

Romans 11:36
For from him and through him, and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.

Stephen Collins

Pastor of Worship & Formation + Direction Team
About Stephen

I have been married to my wife Kelsey since 2012 and we recently made an addition to our family, a little baby boy named Levi! We have a dog named Griffey, cheer for Seattle sports, love living downtown, and love exploring our incredible city.

I was born, raised, and went to college in Northern California. Although I grew up in the church, God significantly moved, shaped, and changed me through the college ministry of Cru at Chico State. It was there that I heard that my faith was not built around what I did or did not do for God, but around what God had already done for me in Christ. This Good News of God’s grace changed me, set me free, and altered the trajectory of my life. I felt called to ministry to teach, shape, and tell others about this Good News. I got the opportunity to work for Cru on my campus for 3 years. But the more I worked in a college town with college students, the more it became clear that my wife and I had a particular passion for the city and for the local church.

So in summer of 2013 we moved to Arizona to help plant Redemption Tucson. In my role as the Pastor of Worship & Discipleship, I have the privilege of helping our church connect our Sunday services and our entire lives to the story and mission of God.

Tracie Paulsen

Outward Focus Ministry Director + Direction Team
About Tracie

Having grown up in northern California and enjoyed the geographic diversity, particularly the rivers, lakes and ocean, the desert was a hard sell for me and my family.  However, God has taught us to be content here, and I can now say that we are truly grateful to live in and be a part of the Tucson community—the people, the mountains and, come on, the food—culinary distinctiveness awards!  But, most of all, we are grateful to God for graciously bringing us to Redemption Tucson where we are continually challenged to live all of life, all for Jesus!

Allen and I were married in 1986 and God added two beautiful children, Melanie & Matthew, to our family in the early and mid 1990’s. That first child caused us to pause.  I was brought up in (sort of) a different faith tradition and Allen with no faith traditions, and we began to question if/what faith tradition we would pass along to our children.  By God’s grace, He led us to a small group Bible study where we learned about Him through His children—an incredible community of loving people. He no sooner rescued us then immediately moved us 1000 miles away from these new brothers and sisters in Christ.  In His wisdom, He knew that each of us, in different ways, would need to learn to grow in our relationship, knowledge and dependence on Him.

In 2001, I resigned from my Air Force career and became a certified Infant Swimming Resource instructor and absolutely love teaching infants and young children self-rescue swimming skills and connecting with the families I meet.  I also love adventuring with Allen on “off the grid” camping and boating expeditions, spending time with our adult children and friends, traveling, cooking/baking, and relaxing, with a book in my hand, on any beach!

I firmly believe that, as Christians, we are blessed to be a blessing, and I am passionate about loving our neighbors by serving them well, particularly in the areas of our “Close, Near and Far” ministries at Redemption Tucson. I am also passionate about my role in a soul care ministry at Redemption Tucson, which involves coming alongside women in the church, in grace and love, to encourage them in their physical, emotional, spiritual and relational health through studying God’s word and also equipping believers in the area of their God-given gifts.

Beliefs & Leadership Structure

REDEMPTION'S MULTI-CONGREGATIONAL STRUCTURE

Redemption church is multi-congregational in structure. This means that a central governing body provides structure, direction, and support for the ministry of each local congregation. Local congregations, like Redemption Tucson, are united and collaborative, but each has its own leadership and is free to contextualize its efforts. Click on the link below to learn more about the overall structure of Redemption.

REDEMPTION'S BELIEFS AND PRACTICES

We are a non-denominational church with a Reformed view of salvation. We believe that all of life is all for Jesus. We have been saved by grace through faith, which is itself a gift. That gift empowers us to be a transformed people who embody His redemptive power and participate in the renewal of all things.

REDEMPTION'S OUTWARD FOCUS

We are a sent people. As the church we are not called to turn inward and build our own kingdom. We are called to turn outward and give ourselves to the spread of the Gospel, the establishment of healthy local churches, and the multiplication of disciples. This is a call to invest beyond our church, beyond our tribe, and beyond our generation.

Community and Global Initiatives

We strongly believe that all members of the body of Christ are sent people, called to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel to the world. Therefore our community and global efforts should never be limited to structured programs. However, in response to the needs in our community, and God's heart for the nations, we do build global partnerships and facilitate opportunities to participate in God's mission of blessing the nations in Christ.
