Outward Focus at Redemption Tucson

Learn More about how Redemption is engaging at large

We are a sent people. As the church we are not called to turn inward and build our own kingdom. We are called to turn outward and give ourselves to the spread of the Gospel, the establishment of healthy local churches, and the multiplication of disciples. This is a call to invest beyond our church, beyond our tribe, and beyond our generation. We don’t care who gets the credit, only that Jesus is glorified.

Mission is not a department of the Church, it is the very nature of the Church.

How We Are Engaging: Outward Focus Ministries

We believe that all of life is all for Jesus and therefore all of life is an opportunity to honor Jesus and engage in His mission. That being said, as a church we are pointedly committing to partnering and engaging a variety of things that we call Outward Focus Ministries. These ministries are not all that we do, nor should they be, but they are tangible expressions of our calling to be salt & light as the people of God in our city & world.

You can get more information about each of these Outward Focus Ministries below or by emailing Redemption Tucson’s Outward Focus Director Robin Houlton HERE.

We are very thankful that we get to meet for our Sundays services in a historic public school in the heart of the city. Safford School is a beautiful yet underfunded school serving predominantly underprivileged students. We seek to bless and encourage the school, faculty, students, and families who call Safford home.

Safford School is our primary Outward Focus Ministry–from mentorship relationships, service projects, giving generously, to volunteering at the school, we invite others to participate in these activities as a tangible expression of seeking the good of our city and loving our neighbor.

Free Ever After

Sex trafficking is one of the clearest pictures of the brokenness and prevalence of sin in our world and city. One of the ways we seek to bring awareness to this horrific injustice and fight for peace, life, purity, and freedom is partnering with Free Ever After.

What is it? “Free Ever After Bridal Boutique is a resale bridal shop whose proceeds go to combat sexual abuse and exploitation (sex trafficking) in Tucson, AZ. We get our beautiful gently worn gowns by community members who donate their dress to support our program. We then help brides redeem these dresses and at the same time they help us provide resources for the survivors we mentor.”

Foster Care & Adoption

Foster Care & Adoption is one of the things Redemption at large has committed to partner with in a long-term capacity.

There is an orphan crisis in Tucson and around the world. Children who have lost parents, been abandoned by parents, or been taken out of dangerous environments, are in need of stable homes and loving families. James tells us that caring for vulnerable children such as these is close to the heart of God. Therefore we, the people of God, must lead the way in recognizing this great need and stepping up to meet it.

Hands of Hope

We believe all people are made in the image of God and therefore have inherent dignity, worth, purpose, and value—including the unborn. We believe that Christians are called to use our power to care for the vulnerable, oppressed, and give voice to the voiceless. Hands of Hope is doing great work to raise awareness about abortion and care for those who have been affected by it. Their mission statement is: “Hands of Hope is a Christ-centered organization promoting a culture of life, hope, and healing. This is accomplished by caring for those facing an unplanned pregnancy, revealing the truth about the unborn person, teaching sexual integrity, and offering a path to healing from an abortion experience.”

Corazon Ministries

Jesus commands us to love our neighbors as ourselves. One key demographic of our city is the hispanic/latino population. Corazón Ministries is doing great work towards reaching, blessing, serving, and impacting theses neighbors for Christ. “The purpose of Corazón Ministries is to evangelize to non-believers, to develop believers into disciple makers, and to equip believers for work and service within the context of culture and community in the Hispanic/Latino and other ethnic populations.”

Champions In Action Guatemala

We are very excited to have the opportunity to continually partner and serve in Guatemala with “Champions in Action”. Champions In Action is an organization that provides year-long soccer mentorship as well as summer soccer camps to at-risk youth. Specifically, it targets those who are most susceptible to gang participation, drug/alcohol abuse, and violence (Guatemala’s capital, Guatemala City is one of the deadliest cities in the world). A little investment makes a lot of difference!

We partner by helping put on one of these summer camps and serving as mentors/coaches to: 1. Help train these youth in the game of soccer 2. Build their interpersonal skills, leadership, and self-confidence 3. Get them plugged into a mentorship relationship with a mentor from a church in their neighborhood 4. Share the Gospel of Jesus Christ in a personal + tangible way.
