About Dave

In 2002 I married my wife Kyra a week after college graduation. We have triplets, born in 2007 (Cooper, Ellie, and Paisley), and our exclamation point, Zoe, born in 2010.

I was born in San Diego, CA, the youngest of four boys. Around 6th grade, we moved to Hot Springs, AR (culture shock set in right away). Amidst a pretty chaotic childhood God really grounded my faith while in Arkansas and I still have a bit of the south running through my blood. Just before my Junior Year of High School my mom and I moved to Tucson, AZ. After graduating High School I started at THE University of Arizona, where I studied Philosophy and Religious Studies, with a Spanish minor. While playing rugby and getting plugged into a college ministry, Cru, God instilled in me a deep desire to serve him through intentional, all-of-life ministry. Kyra and I became staff with Cru right after we were married and served there for ten years. We got to launch gospel-centered movements in East Asia and South Africa, while serving throughout the year on two college campuses in northern CA.

With our kids in tow we moved back to AZ. to be part of planting a church in the heart of downtown Tucson. We have loved this city for many years and are incredibly excited to be back in Tucson, staking our flag in the ground and committing our whole lives to Jesus’ glory and the good of our city. Redemption is the word most often used for God’s work of making new what has been broken. While there is much to love in Tucson (natural beauty, an incredible University, art, good food…I could go on and on), there is also a lot of brokenness. By God’s grace, we are grateful to play a part in His work of bringing hope and healing to this city and it’s people through the good news of Jesus.

About Stephen

In 2012, I married my lovely wife Kelsey. I grew up in a small town in Northern California loving Seattle sports, playing music and baseball. I was blessed to grow up in a Christian home with parents who loved and taught me about Christ. While growing up, however, my version of Christianity was warped and distorted–it was built around what I did and did not do for God. In profound arrogance I was trying to perform for God so that he would have to give me what I wanted–as if the sovereign God of the universe would be manipulated by my behavior.

Going to college at Chico State I got involved in Cru and heard the Gospel proclaimed and it changed my life. This Gospel showed me that salvation is not found in what I do, but rather in what Christ has already done for me on the Cross. This Gospel of grace freed me to stop performing and rest in the truth that all of life is a gift from God and an opportunity to respond in love to what Christ has done.

Kelsey and I moved from California to Tucson in summer of 2013 to help plant a church for Jesus’ glory and the good of the city–it is a privilege to play a part in that through Redemption Tucson.

Beliefs & Leadership Structure

REDEMPTION'S MULTI-CONGREGATIONAL STRUCTURE

Redemption church is multi-congregational in structure. This means that a central governing body provides structure, direction, and support for the ministry of each local congregation. Local congregations, like Redemption Scottsdale, are united and collaborative, but each has its own leadership and is free to contextualize its efforts. Click on the link below to learn more about the overall structure of Redemption.

REDEMPTION'S BELIEFS AND PRACTICES

We are a non-denominational church with a Reformed view of salvation. We believe that all of life is all for Jesus. We have been saved by grace through faith, which is itself a gift. That gift empowers us to be a transformed people who embody His redemptive power and participate in the renewal of all things.

REDEMPTION'S OUTWARD FOCUS

We are a sent people. As the church we are not called to turn inward and build our own kingdom. We are called to turn outward and give ourselves to the spread of the Gospel, the establishment of healthy local churches, and the multiplication of disciples. This is a call to invest beyond our church, beyond our tribe, and beyond our generation.

Community and Global Initiatives

We strongly believe that all members of the body of Christ are sent people, called to proclaim and demonstrate the gospel to the world. Therefore our community and global efforts should never be limited to structured programs. However, in response to the needs in our community, and God's heart for the nations, we do build global partnerships and facilitate opportunities to participate in God's mission of blessing the nations in Christ.
